1713 race report
I spent Wed. night and Thursday morning putting on the new lights from Lightforce once I finished the light bar we loaded up and left Vegas for Parker.
Started the race in 8th. position out of 20 seems thats are normal draw area. First lap was uneventful had passed a couple cars and was passed back by one. Pulled into main pit my wife and kids fueled the car while I got out and put the Light Force Lights on. Took under 5 min. not bad and was told we were in 4th place 10 min. behind the leader 1708. Dropped into the wash hit a couple whoops at mile 5 then we were looking at the ground as the car nosed in all on the passenger side. The photo is on a different thread. Me and Cory got out to changed the tire. When we jacked the car up the tire fell off the rim The rim had shattered from the landing. After changing the tire I walked the rim over to a Durka Durka phogorapher and asked if he would carry it out for me which he did. No one passed us while we changed the flat but I knew there was a car 10 min behind us so we got going trying to make up some time. Things were going good and at mile 80 in a narrow section of sand wash the car sputtered lost power and died and would not restart. Checked some obvious things first but still would not start. We started to change the fuel pump but since it was brand new I stopped and discovered that the fuel line in the cell had got knocked up onto some foam so we ran out of gas with 10 gallons in the tank. After taking the cell apart with trophy trucks passing 3 feet by us got the problem fixed and we were off. Stopped at Midway got gas and was told 1708 was the only car through. I figured since we were down almost a hour with the fuel cell someone would be gaining on us. It was raining pretty good and the last 30 miles was a river. We crossed the line and was told we finished 2nd. Our best finish and first podium. We finished before dark so I did not have a chance to try out the LightForce lights but glad I put them on just in case.
